A Co Tyrone man has died suddenly just days after being released from prison.

The man in his 30s, who has been named locally as Michael Cawley, died in the early hours of Monday.

Police last night said they were called to the scene of a sudden death in the Parkmount area of Cookstown.

A spokesman said: “A post-mortem examination will be carried out, however, the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.”

It is understood Mr Cawley was released from Maghaberry Prison on Friday, where he had been serving a sentence for assaulting a man inside Dungannon court complex earlier this year and other offences including making threats to kill.

Friends took to Facebook last night to pay tribute.

One said: “He really was one of the best, he's going to be sadly missed by all who knew him, rest in peace Micky Cawley - love ya my friend, I'll never forget.”

Another friend wrote: “So sorry to hear this, such a lovely young man. Thinking of you all at this sad time RIP Micky, gone too soon.”

There has been a spate of sudden deaths involving young people in the Mid Ulster area over the last two years.

In October 2016, Amy Reid, who was from Coolnafranky Park in Cookstown, is understood to have died after attending a party at a flat in Coagh, Co Tyrone.

In May this year Mark Hay (34) died at a house in Moneymore, Co Derry.

In June Liam Campbell (36) died at a house in the Coolnafranky area of Cookstown.

Aine Campbell, no relation, died at the same property last month.

A day after Mr Campbell died Dungannon man Gary McCabe (30) also passed away at a house in his home town.

Both men are believed to have known each other.

The Dungannon area was struck by more tragedy last month when Wayne Bell died in hospital after earlier taking ill at a house in Moygashel.
