Police are investigating a serious assault at waste ground close to Carrickhill in north Belfast.

PSNI forensic officers spent most of yesterday at the site, close to Stanhope Street, with a forensic tent used to cover potential evidence, following reports of an attack.

Local people say the waste ground would be at times used by an anti-social element who congregate in the area.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Police are carrying out a search in the area linked to an ongoing investigation."
