A WOMAN who told police "it was him or me" has been remanded in custody charged with stabbing a man four times.

Ursula Logue (34) of Beallachmor Lower in Derry was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a knife on October 29.

Police were called by the ambulance service to a report of a stabbing. They found a man with four deep wounds to his leg and arm who told them that Logue had stabbed him.

She was located nearby and arrested. As she was being brought to the custody suite she told an officer "he said pick a knife so I stabbed him". Later she told police she was "in fear for her life" when she stabbed the man.

She said they had been drinking together and an argument started "probably over something stupid" and she claimed the alleged injured party had grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the ground. She said he punched her and claimed he smashed a glass and threatened her.

Logue admitted stabbing the man but said it was self defence.

An officer told the court Logue had said she had taken up to 80 Xanax in the days before the incident.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said there was "no romantic attachment" between the pair. He said Logue was distressed at the severity of the injuries inflicted.

District Judge Barney McElholm said the wounds did not appear to be as a result of self defence and there was no evidence of assault by the alleged injured party. He remanded Logue in custody to appear on November 22.
