Police investigate three arson attacks

TWO men arrested on suspicion of a weekend arson attack in Newry have been released on bail.

At around 1.20am on Saturday firefighters were called to a blaze at a property on Shepherds Way, which caused considerable damage to the building.

Two men, aged 19 and 53 were arrested in the area a short time later on suspicion of arson, but have since been released pending further enquiries.

The incident was one of three arson attacks over the weekend.

Elsewhere, witnesses are being sought following attacks at a house in Dunmurry and a car in Glenavy.

At around 5.30am on Sunday police received a report that a black bin had been placed at the rear door of a a house in Teeling Avenue in Dunmurry and set alight. The property sustained smoke damage, but the owner was able to extinguish the fire.

The PSNI is treating the incident as arson with intent to endanger life and anyone with information in relation to the crime is asked to contact police.

Meanwhile, at around 3.30am on Saturday, police received a report of a white Audi A3 on fire in a driveway at a house in Glenavy Parade. Fire fighters attended the scene and extinguished the blaze, which caused considerable damage to the car and to windows and guttering of the house, which was unoccupied at the time.
