A 65-year-old man, who has died in a farming accident in Co Tyrone, was described as "extremely popular" by friends.

Pat Tracey, a father-of-two from Cairn Park in Gortin, died on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Tracey is reported to have been working on a tractor in the townland of Fallagh when the accident happened shortly after lunchtime.

It is believed the incident happened on the family farm.

Mr Tracey had worked as a cattle dealer and lorry driver..

Speaking to the Ulster Herald, Peter McSwiggan, a retired sheep farmer, who knew Mr Tracey, said the 65-year-old was "extremely popular with everyone in the area".

"In all kinds of weather, you'd see Pat on the road transporting sheep and cattle for local farmers. The service he provided in this regard was second to none," he said.

"Pat was a familiar farmer around the marts, especially Newtownstewart, and went about his business with an enthusiasm and enjoyment that was appreciated by all who knew him."

Mr McSwiggan added: "It's just such a tragedy for his family that this has happened".
