THE "sustained, vile, sexist abuse" shouted at a female referee during a match at Coleraine Rugby Club has been revealed.

A leaked report, seen by BBC News NI, records Grainne Crabtree's account of a small number of spectators - believed to be four men - shouting a "tirade of profanities and sexual remarks" at her for 80 minutes during the March game.

Coleraine Rugby Club has been fined £5,000 by the Irish Rugby Football Union's Ulster Branch over the abuse.

During the championship game between Coleraine's1st XV Senior Men's team and Dromore RFC, Ms Crabtree heard sexually degrading language being used after awarding a yellow card.

She was called a "f**king joke" and told to "take off your shorts so we get a better look at your a***".

Ms Crabtree said the abuse made her feel "anxious and unsettled".

During the second half she heard "Yo, you s**g, you're a f**king disgrace, you s**g".

The club said it was "pleased" the issue had been resolved and had accepted the outcome of the investigation.
