Masked gang attack man with hammer and headbutt woman during north Belfast burglary

A masked gang attacked a man with a hammer and headbutted a woman during a burglary in north Belfast.

Police said four men, all armed with hammers, forced their way into a house in Keadyville Avenue off the Shore Road at around 9.20pm yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Michael Maguire said: "Two of the suspects are reported to have assaulted a man inside the house with a hammer. A woman, aged in her 20s, who was also in the property intervened and was headbutted; sustaining a minor injury to her mouth.

"The man, aged in his 30s, attended hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

"Damage to a door and windows and a number of household items was also reported.

"One of the suspects was reported to have worn a navy-coloured tracksuit with stripes along the sleeves and bottoms."

Police have appealed to anyone who saw men acting suspiciously in the area to contact them or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
