Two arrests after death of Ryan Macrae following Portaferry attack

The man who died more than a week after after being assaulted in Portaferry has been named as Ryan Macrae.

The 32-year-old was attacked on Church Street in the Co Down town shortly before 1am on Sunday October 14.

PSNI Detective Inspector Deborah Eakin said Mr Macrae died last night.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of Mr Macrae's murder. The 19-year-old and 28-year-old were arrested today.

Both men had initially been charged with grievous bodily harm following the assault and appeared in Downpatrick Magistrates Court on October 15.

Alliance Party Assembly member Kellie Armstrong expressed her sympathies.

"Condolences to the family and friends of the young man who sadly has died from his injuries following an incident in Portaferry on Sunday 14th October," she tweeted.

Ms Armstrong urged anyone with information to contact the police.
