A woman has been airlifted to hospital after a serious road collision in Co Down.

The collision took place on the Banbridge Road on the outskirts of Laurencetown yesterday evening.

It is understood the Air Ambulance arrived at the scene at around 5.30pm and later removed the woman to the Royal Victoria Hospital.

It is believed a man who was travelling in a second vehicle was also taken to hospital for treatment.

The Banbridge Road, which is the main route between Portadown and Banbridge, was later closed between the Banville Roundabout and Laurencetown.

Police advised motorists to avoid area and find an alternative route.

Sinn Féin councillor Kevin Savage, who lives nearby, attended the scene of the collision last night.

“I hope everybody in the accident makes a speedy recovery and I would commend the emergency services for getting there so quickly,” he said.
