A MOTHER-of-two has spoken of her horror after she discovered a stranger with a "contagious disease" having an early morning bath in her home.

Nikki Kelly, whose stepfather and two young children were in the house at the time, claimed the man was "off his head" when she found him in her home in Fingals Court on the Lower Falls in west Belfast last week.

She said police later told her the man had used services from the Welcome Organisation, which helps homeless or vulnerable people in Belfast.

Ms Kelly alleged police told her the man had a "contagious disease".

She told the Andersonstown News: "I am almost sick wondering what this contagious disease is".

Ms Kelly said after returning from work late on Thursday of last week, she fell asleep on her sofa.

She said when she woke up she realised she had forgotten to lock her front door.

She later went upstairs to bed, only to be woken by her stepfather who told her a man was in the bathroom.

"I heard someone come up from under the water and let out a sigh," she said. "I could hear the water splashing. This was around 4.40am (on Friday of last week) , so he had obviously been there for a while as he was able to run himself a bath."

She said she woke her children and took them to her mother's house nearby. Her mother then rang police who removed the man from the house.

A spokesman for the Welcome Organisation said it was "aware of an incident" but could not comment on individual cases.

A police spokesman said they received a call at around 5am on Friday, September 21.

"On arrival of police they removed this man from the property," he said.

"There are no further details."
