The SDLP Mayor of Derry and Strabane has wished Tyrone well as they bid to win a fourth All Ireland senior football title in Dublin tomorrow.

John Boyle said the county’s footballers would write a “new chapter in Tyrone’s proud footballing history” when they take on the Dubs at Croke Park.

The Derry mayor said tens of thousands of Red Hand fans would make the trip to Dublin for the game which would also be viewed by fans throughout the world. He wished all fans a safe and enjoyable weekend.

“An All Ireland final is an occasion to savour and it has been heartening to see the excitement and atmosphere building in Tyrone in recent weeks,” he said.

Mr Boyle said he looked forward to welcoming the team back to the north west next week.

“It will be a tall order to defeat Dublin but the team’s exceptional performances in defeating Donegal and Monaghan in recent weeks means there is a genuine feeling in the county that they can upset the odds and bring Sam Maguire north again,” he said.
