A BELFAST man is to stand trial accused of making and having indecent images of children, a judge has ordered.

Kieran Clarke appeared before the city's magistrates court to face a total of 12 charges.

The 30-year-old, of Delhi Street, allegedly made and possessed the indecent photographs on dates between December 2013 and June 2016.

He is further accused of having a prohibited image of a child and possession of an extreme pornographic image.

During a preliminary enquiry hearing Clarke spoke to confirm he understood the charges against him. He declined to give evidence or call any witnesses at this stage in the case.

With the prosecution contending that he has a case to answer, defence counsel Jonathan Browne made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall granted an application to have Clarke returned for trial at Belfast Crown Court.

She released him on continuing bail until those proceedings get underway.

Mr Browne told the court his client has adhered to a condition which prohibits unsupervised contact with anyone aged under 18.
