THE last boxing match to take place at Windsor Park was in the 1950s, with the `gentleman's sport' retreating inside for the most part in the years since then.

However, Croke Park made exceptions to its Rule 42 on a number of occasions to host bouts.

Most notable of these was when Muhammed Ali fought Al `Blue' Lewis at the Dublin home of GAA in July 1972.

Ali won with a technical knockout in the 11th round.

In 1981, Barry McGuigan made his professional debut on the card when Joey Gibilisco defeated Charlie Nash in Dalymount Park, a Dublin soccer ground.

Four years later, the `Clones Cyclone' memorably won the WBA featherweight championship at London's Loftus Road, home to Queens Park Rangers.

Wembley Stadium has been a more recent venue for high-profile bouts.
