A Co Down kite company has revealed special papal designs ahead of the visit by Pope Francis next weekend.

GoFlyYourKite, which is based near Comber, has launched three designs to celebrate the pontiff's visit to Ireland.

It will be travelling to Dublin to hold kite workshops at the Pastoral Congress for the World Meeting Of Families 2018 at the RDS in Dublin.

The company sells kite packs which allows people to choose their own graphics and then trace them on to the kite using indelible ink.

George Ellis, from GoFlyYourKite, said the idea for the papal-themed flags initially came about after the company visited the annual novena at Knock Shrine in Co Mayo.

"They had been involved with the launch of the World Meeting of Families and they came across our idea and thought it was a great family activity," he said.

"This is what families are about, doing a fun thing and being able to go outside and gelling together as a family unit. The papal idea came from that".

Glenn Heasley, who owns the company, said the kites could either be taken to Dublin or designed at home "while watching the coverage".

"It can work on so many levels. It's good old fashioned fun. It's a great family activity."
