Man slashed across face in sectarian assault

The attack happened in the Shore Road area of Newtownabbey

A MAN was slashed across the face and stomach with a sharp object early yesterday in a sectarian attack in Newtownabbey.

The assault happened in the Shore Road area and was reported to police at about 7.25am.

The victim received treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

His attacker was described as being around 5ft 9in tall, with a slim but muscular build, and aged between 25 and 30.

He was wearing a white/grey hooded top and was cleanly shaven.

PSNI constable Philip Kelly said the attack was being treated as a sectarian hate crime.

He urged anyone with information to phone police in Newtownabbey on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
