Derry Girls come out tops in online television comedy poll

Hit show, Derry Girls has come out top on a fans' online comedy poll.

HIT show Derry Girls has come out top in an online poll to find the UK's top comedy.

The show, written by Derry girl, Lisa McGee just pipped Inside No 9 to take the award on Tuesday night. Fans of the Channel 4 show recorded almost half a million votes in the race to be named top comedy.

Set in troubles-era Derry, the show focuses on the 16-year-old lives of Erin Quinn and her four friends. Derry Girls has proved the jewel in the crown of Channel 4 comedy for 2018, breaking viewing records. A second series of the show is already in production and is expected to hit screens next year.

Following the close of the Radio Times poll, Derry Girls creator, Ms McGee thanked fans on social media.
