Bus hijacked at gunpoint during Eleventh Night violence

The bus was hijacked in the Westwinds Estate in Newtownards

MASKED men hijacked a bus at gunpoint during Eleventh Night violence in Newtownards, police have said.

The bus was carrying passengers when masked men boarded it In Blenheim Drive in the Westwinds Estate at around 7.30pm yesterday.

One of the men was carrying a gun.

The bus was then set alight, obstructing a main road to the Ulster Hospital's busy A&E department.

Police said none of the passengers were injured but were "understandably shaken" following the hijacking.

Officers have appealed for information.
