A ROMANIAN man has been jailed over his involvement in a gang rape in Co Armagh.

Craigavon Crown Court Judge Donna McColgan told 27-year-old Florin Muntean the attack by him and three others in August 2014 had devastated the victim's life.

Three men were previously jailed after pleading guilty to conspiracy to rape.

Florin Cirpaci (37), Ioan Lacatus (28) and Aurel Teglas (24), all with addresses in the Portadown area, were handed sentences totalling 16 years.

They met the victim, a 22-year-old student, at a bar in Portadown and took her back to a house at the centre of the case.

At an earlier hearing Muntean, with an address given as c/o Maghaberry Prison, pleaded guilty to a single count of rape on August 25 2014.

Ordering Muntean to spend half his seven year sentence in jail and half on licence, Judge McColgan confirmed he will be deported to Romania when released.

Muntean would have been dealt with at the same time as the other three man, but fled the north and was only brought back last summer after a European arrest warrant was issued.

The judge told him that had he not confessed his guilt, she would have given him a nine year sentence.

In addition, he is to remain on the sex offenders register for life.
