Arrest after 'suspicious' death of man in Banbridge

A man in his fifties has been found dead in Banbridge

A 28-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after a man in his fifties was found dead at a house in Banbridge.

The man's body was discovered in Millmount Court just before 5pm yesterday.

Police are treating the death as suspicious.

The 28-year-old man remains in police custody.

Police said they are keen to speak to anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the Millmount Court area between Saturday and yesterday to contact them.

SDLP councillor Seamus Doyle said there was "shock and sadness" in the town following the man's death.

“My thoughts, and the thoughts of my colleagues, are with the man’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time," he said.

“I would urge anyone who has any information to contact the police or Crimestoppers.”

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart extended her sympathies to the man's family.

"I have ongoing communication with the PSNI locally and they have assured me that this is an active  investigation into this death," she said.

She added: "I am sure the family would want some privacy to mourn the loss of their family member and our thoughts are very much with them at this sad time".
