FRESH searches for the body of murder victim Lisa Dorrian are being carried out today.

Police revealed they are searching three new sites in woods in Craigantlet, Co Down, and Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

The searches, involving specially-trained police dogs, began yesterday and are continuing today.

The search areas include Cairn Wood in Craigantlet.

As part of a televised appeal for information, PSNI Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy today said Ms Dorrian knew her killer.

The shop assistant, who was 25, went missing after a party at a caravan site in Ballyhalbert on February 27, 2005.

Despite repeated appeals, her body has never been found.

Police believe the young woman was murdered. However, no-one has ever been charged.

Ms Dorrian's mother, Pat (59) died in 2015 without knowing what had happened her daughter.

Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy appealed to anyone with information to come forward, adding "it’s not too late to do the right thing".

“We won’t be passing judgement on what people were doing that weekend but we need to know where Lisa is and what happened to her," he said.

"She was a sister, a daughter and a friend - and had her whole life ahead of her."

The senior officer said Ms Dorrian socialised with a group of people between Friday February 25 and Sunday February 27 2005.

She was last seen alive in a caravan at a site in Ballyhalbert around 10pm on February 27.

"I believe she was murdered that night or in the early hours of the following morning. There is nothing to suggest that Lisa came to harm at the hands of a stranger, I believe she knew her killer," he said.

“Only a small number of people are aware of what happened and I believe that they may have discussed this with their friends or families in the past 13 years. I want you to get in touch with police. I want the killer to know that we have pursued them for 13 years and we remain resolute in seeking justice for Lisa’s family."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
