PEOPLE who actively promote Irish in classrooms, the community and GAA clubs are being offered free spots at a week-long intensive language school.

Gaeltacht Thireoghain is offering scholarships to cover the full cost of its language and cultural week, which is now in its eighth year.

Up to 60 adults and young people are expected to take part in activities from July 2-6 in Pomeroy, Co Tyrone.

There will be three classes - bun-rang for beginners, mean-rang for intermediate and ard-rang for advanced - delivered by teachers.

Organisers said scholarships to cover the £70 cost were being made available to students over the age of 16, Irish language officers from GAA clubs or "anybody who is active in promoting the language in schools or clubs".

Classes run from 10am to 3pm every day while there are also plans for a `pop up gaeltact' on Friday from noon to 3pm.
