THE funeral of a Co Down GAA player who collapsed and died on Saturday from a suspected heart attack is due to take place today.

Family and friends of Clonduff GAC senior hurler Pearce Branagan will gather to say their final farewells.

His club said the 23-year-old trainee teacher from Hilltown had suffered a cardiac seizure.

A book of condolences has been opened at the club, with crowds of people gathering to pay tribute to the popular sportsman.

Mr Branagan’s funeral Mass will take place at 2pm today at St John’s, Ballymaghery, near Hilltown.
