A TEENAGE boy was stabbed multiple times during an attack in the outskirts of west Belfast.

The 17-year-old victim suffered wounds to his back and arm during that assault in the Bell Steel Road area during the early hours of Saturday.

Police believe the youth was involved in an altercation with a man near the junction of the Bell Steel Road and Glenwood Court shortly after 2am.

The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Sinn Féin councillor Charlene O'Hara condemned the attack.

"These attacks have a severely damaging impact on our entire city and must stop immediately," she said.

Police said the attacker is described to be around 40 years old and of heavy build. He had gelled down blond hair and was wearing white Lacoste trainers, grey shorts and a grey and navy coloured Mackenzie polo shirt.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
