A MAN was taken to hospital yesterday after the tractor he was travelling in left the road in Co Down.

The vehicle is understood to have crashed on the Crew Road, Ballinarry, near Downpatrick shortly before 9am.

The man, believed to be in his early 30s, was last night being treated in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

A spokesman for the Ambulance Service (NIAS) said they received a call at 8.40am "following reports of a tractor having left the road".

"NIAS despatched an A&E crew to the scene and the charity air ambulance was also tasked to the incident," he said.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, a male patient approximately 30 years of age was transported by land ambulance to RVH in Belfast."
