DUP MP Emma Little-Pengelly has called on the British government to review its support for victims of terrorism, including bringing forward a special pension for those severely injured as a result of a terrorist attack.

The South Belfast representative made the call as she sought to introduce a private members bill using Westminster's '10 minute rule'.

Ms Little-Pengelly's Victims of Terrorism (Pensions and Other Support) Bill proposes the British government sets up a review of support available to victims, while echoing calls from campaigners for a pension for victims.

Speaking at Westminster, she said that after the headlines about an atrocity faded, many victims were only beginning their journey to recovery.

"It is right and proper that victims needs are addressed and the government should review the services available," she said.

"That includes the needs of the bereaved, mental health support and particularly the needs of the physically injured including the proposal for a special pension for the severely disabled."

Ms Little-Pengelly's proposals on a victims pension differ frm those of some campaigners, as the DUP MP believes former paramilitaries should not qualify for the regular payments.
