Tributes have been paid to a well-known Derry woman who died suddenly while on a family holiday in Spain.

Ann McCrea (65), is believed to have suffered a heart attack while on holiday with her husband, Don and son, Paul in Malaga.

From Meenan Drive in Derry's Bogside, Mrs McCrea, a cousin of former SDLP leader, John Hume, was well known throughout the city. For many years, her husband Don acted as driver for Mr Hume.

SDLP assembly member, Mark H Durkan described Mrs McCrea as a “lovely lady.”

“I know her family and the people of Derry are greatly shocked by this news. Of course, Ann was well known in the SDLP as her family home was a mandatory stopping point when John Hume brought politicians to the Bogside. He took them all to visit Auntie Bella,” he said.

The Derry assembly member said the family hoped to have Mrs McCrea's remains returned soon with the help of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
