Man dies following accident between car and lorry in Ballynahinch

A man has died following an accident between a car and a lorry in Co Down.

The accident happened at around 7.15pm on Thursday April 26 on the Belfast Road in Ballynahinch.

A blue Peugeot 308 and a white Volvo lorry were involved. The victim had been driving the car.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 19.18 on 26 April to report a Road Traffic Collision involving a lorry and a car on the main road between Ballynahinch and Temple.

"A rapid response paramedic and an A&E crew were dispatched to the scene.

"One male patient was assessed and treated at the scene by the RRV paramedic and later taken to the RVH in Belfast."

The Belfast Road outside Ballynahinch was closed for a period of time, but was later re-opened.

Alliance assembly member Kellie Armstrong said: "My sincere condolences to the family of the gentleman who sadly died after the crash on the Belfast Road outside Ballynahinch".

SDLP councillor Mark Murnin also expressed his "sympathies and condolences to the family of the man".
