A 29-year-old woman has been charged with causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving after a pedestrian suffered "life changing injuries" on same north Belfast road where a mother-of-two lost her life just days before.

The crash on the Ballysillan Road happened in the early hours of yesterday morning and the woman, who was arrested at the scene, is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court next month.

Police said the injured man, who is aged in his 40s, was hit by a car at around 3.15am.

It is understood a number of local people came to his aid following the collision before he was rushed to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment.

It comes just days after mother-of-two Lisa Gow was knocked down and killed on the same road after being struck by a stolen car.

PSNI Inspector James Murphy said:"Officers responded to a report that a car had been in collision with a pedestrian on the Ballysillan Road.

"Officers attended the scene along with other members of the emergency services.

"A male pedestrian in his 40s was taken to hospital. He sustained severe head and facial injuries which are believed to be life-changing, but not life-threatening at this time."

Two damaged cars remained at the scene of the crash yesterday morning with damage also visible on a traffic sign on the footpath.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone may have captured footage on a dashcam to contact them.
