Police have appealed for information after attempts were made to steal two ATMs during separate Co Antrim break-ins.

Shortly after 4am today entry was forced to a shop on the Lurgan Road in Aghalee and a substantial amount of cash stolen.

The intruders then also tried to remove an ATM from the shop but were unsuccessful.

A short time later, just before 5am, there was an unsuccessful attempt to remove an ATM from a shop in the Tully Road area of Crumlin.

The attempts to steal the cash machines come just a week after thieves stole an estimated £17,500 after smashing open an ATM during a burglary at a shop in Co Down.

Police said burglars cut a hole in the roof of Grant’s Costcutter store on the Hilltown Road in Mayobridge some time in the early hours of April 12.

Once inside, they smashed open the ATM and stole approximately £17,500 before they fled.
