A search of Derry's River Foyle was launched yesterday after a man was seen entering the water from the Foyle Bridge.

The ambulance service said it was alerted shortly after 8am along with the Foyle Search and Rescue organisation.

The city-bound lane of the bridge was closed while emergency services attended the scene, causing major traffic delays in the Culmore Road and Crescent Link areas.

The air ambulance was also tasked.

Foyle Search and Rescue volunteers conducted a search both on the river and along the bank. The Fire and Rescue Service was also called to the scene.
