POLICE cordoned off a car in the grounds of Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry yesterday evening.

A forensic tent was placed over the rear of an Audi in the hospital car park.

Police were reported to have visited the Fetal Assessment Unit at the hospital.

The car was parked close to the South Wing of the hospital.

Police maintained a security presence at the car throughout the night.

Earlier in the evening, police forensic officers conducted a full sweep of the vehicle.

The PSNI could not be reached for comment and the Western Health Trust, which operates the hospital, refused to comment, instead requesting that The Irish News contact police.

Last night the full circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear.
