A WOMAN has suffered facial injuries after being attacked with a hammer during a burglary in west Belfast.

The aggravated burglary took place in Moyard Parade at around 6.15pm last night.

It was reported that a man carrying a hammer forced his way into a house and attacked the woman.

The victim aged in her 40s, sustained a cut and bruising below her left eye.

The intruder is also reported to have damaged a light and a wardrobe in the incident.

A 25-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of a number of offences, including aggravated burglary.

Police have appealed for information.
