Several shots have been fired at a man walking in north Belfast.

It happened at around 8.10pm on Tuesday April 10 in Tyndale Drive, in Ballysillan.

Police said one gunman was involved and the intended target was uninjured.

Detective Inspector Rachel Wilson said a number of shots had been fired and a further shot had been discharged as the gunman ran away.

She appealed for anyone who saw a tall man in his thirites or forties, wearing a dark coat with this hood up and carrying a bag. Police believe he left the area in a car.

“We are also investigating whether there is a link between this shooting and a black Vauxhall Vectra that was found burned-out in the Old Westland Road a short time later,” she added.

PUP councillor Julie-Anne Corr-Johnson said attempted murder "smacks of a past we passionately want to leave behind" and appealed for local people to "share whatever information you have" with police.
