A director at one of the north's councils has left her post and a second is due to leave in the coming weeks.

The departures at Mid and East Antrim Borough Council mean the local authority will lose two of its four department directors within weeks.

Sources say Karen Hargan, the council's director of organisation, development and community planning, left her role at the end of March.

Sandra Cole, who heads up the council’s finance and governance department, is also expected to move on in the coming weeks.

A spokesman for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council did not confirm the departures, saying: “It would be inappropriate for council to comment on the employment of named staff."

He added: “Mid and East Antrim Borough Council continues to lead the way in Northern Ireland local government reform, from transition to transformation, with a 900-strong staffing team delivering on council’s key priorities for its citizens.”
