Armagh ladies' football star Caroline O'Hanlon carries flag at Commonwealth Games

ARMAGH Ladies' footballer Caroline O'Hanlon has led the Northern Ireland team at this morning's Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Australia.

The Carrickcruppen and Orchard county midfielder, who will star for the Northern Ireland netball team at the Gold Coast Games, was flag-bearer for the 88-strong team at the Carrara Stadium.

Speaking ahead of performing her role today, O'Hanlon said: “You want to be selected to represent Northern Ireland and be here at the Games but to have been asked… I was shocked to be honest, but I’m very, very proud.”

O'Hanlon, a the three-time Allstar who was named Ladies’ Footballer of the Year in 2014, plays club netball for Manchester Thunder. She joins a star-studded list of previous flag bearers which includes Mary Peters.
