THE remains of a baby are believed to have been removed from the scene of the Co Fermanagh house fire tragedy.

It comes as police revealed that a fourth victim has been reported dead in the ferocious house fire in Derrylin.

The victims have been named locally as Crystal Gossett, her daughter Diane (19) and son Edward (16). A fourth victim, Diane's baby daughter, is also believed to have died in the fire.

Detectives investigating the blaze at the rural farmhouse said the crime scene was "very complex" and work to identify the victims would take a "number of days".

However, searches by specialist teams are understood to have recovered the remains of a baby girl at the Molly Road property on Tuesday afternoon, hours after the fire ripped through the isolated farmhouse.

Police have still not revealed the sexes or ages of the victims.

But it is believed they are a mother and her two children, all originally from Doncaster in England.

The family are understood to have lived in Tralee, before moving to Derrylin where they were renting the large bungalow for around a year.

A 27-year-old man, named locally as Sam Quinn, was arrested at the scene of the blaze on suspicion of murder. Police said he "remains in hospital under police guard".

It is understood he was still being treated at the South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen last night, but was due to be questioned by detectives.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire, which they said was started deliberately.

In an update yesterday on the investigation, PSNI Detective Inspector Peter McKenna said they were working "intensively" to establish the number of people who died.

"I believe the fire was started deliberately. It was ferocious and has left a very complex crime scene," he said.

"However, we have specialist search and rescue teams working hard to try and identify those who died. I am aware of local information about a family living in this property and reports of a fourth victim.

"At this stage we are still working intensively to establish how many victims were involved in this appalling incident.

"This will take a number of days due to the structural damage caused by the fire which is further compounded by the severe weather that is forecast.

"The specialist officers will ensure that the bodies of all persons identified are recovered in a dignified manner.

"Post mortem examinations will then follow and this will assist me in confirming the identity of the victims."

Mr McKenna also appealed to "anyone who knew of or has any knowledge of the residents of 57 Molly Road Doon, Derrylinn to make contact with police".

He also repeated appeals for anyone travelling through Derrylin between midnight and 07:20 on Tuesday to get in touch.
