THE family of a young Belfast man who died following serious head injuries on a city centre night out have gathered at the scene to mark a year since his death.

Conan Anderson (22), from the Short Strand area, died some weeks after suffering serious head injuries following a night out at Thompson's Garage nightclub in the early hours of February 6 last year.

A man has been charged with manslaughter and is due to stand trial later this year.

Mr Anderson's family and friends held a vigil near the nightclub on Arthur Lane yesterday, and encouraged any further witnesses to come forward.

In a statement the family said: "We believe that there may be people who may have interacted with or seen Conan in the early hours of Monday February 6 2017 in Thompsons nightclub, AMPM bar or the Arthur Lane area, who have not come forward.

"We would appeal to these people to come forward."

Among those who attended the vigil were members of Doyle FC where Mr Anderson worked as a football coach.

A football pitch in Short Strand has been named Conan Park in his memory.
