PROMINENT Catholic Lord Alton, a leading pro-life campaigner, will be speaking in Belfast today on 'legislating for life'.

David Alton was a liberal MP in Liverpool between 1979 and 1997, when he joined the House of Lords as Baron Alton of Liverpool.

He is widely known for his pro-life views on abortion and campaigned against the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008, particularly its creation and use of animal-human hybrid stem cells for medical purposes.

The motto on his coat of arms – "Choose life" – is taken from Deuteronomy 30:19.

Lord Alton's talk on 'legislating for life' will be at St Bride's Hall, Derryvolgie Avenue, Belfast at 7.30pm today.
