AN Irish League footballer is to face continued prosecution on charges of taking and distributing an indecent image of a child, a court has heard.
Confirmation was given yesterday that the case against Cliftonville striker Jay Donnelly is currently set to proceed.
The 22-year-old is now expected to indicate his attitude to the allegations at the next hearing.
Donnelly, of Ardilea Drive in the Ardoyne area of Belfast, is accused of two offences.
He allegedly took an indecent photograph of a child on June 28 2016.
A second charge involves distributing or showing the image between that date and October 25 2016.
Donnelly has continued to appear for the north Belfast club since the allegations emerged.
He did not attend the city's magistrates court for the latest update in the case.
His solicitor informed District Judge Amanda Henderson about correspondence with the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).
A PPS lawyer then submitted: "I have a response, the prosecution is to continue."
Based on that progress report the defence solicitor asked for time to liaise with his client.
Adjourning the case, Judge Henderson indicated it was for his attitude to the charges on the next occasion.
