Man (23) who overtook police car at 103mph handed driving ban

A man who overtook a police car at 103mph has been banned from driving for three months

A 23-YEAR-OLD man who overtook a police car at 103mph has been banned from driving for three months and fined £200.

John Lee Smyth, of Mallaboy Lane, Dunloy, Co Antrim, was caught speeding on November 5 last year.

Ballymena Magistrates Court heard yesterday that the crime was recorded at the Crankill Road dual-carriageway near Ballymena which has a speed limit of 70mph.

A defence lawyer said it happened at 11pm on a Sunday and added: "Unfortunately for him it was a police car he was overtaking".

Banning Smyth from driving for three months, District Judge Peter King told him: "You don't need me to tell you that this speed was completely and utterly unacceptable".
