£26,000 watch stolen from James McClean's home as he scored for West Brom
REPUBLIC of Ireland star James McClean has told of his anger at the thought of thieves rampaging through his home.
Burglars targeted the home of the Derry footballer during a Premier League game on Tuesday.
The RTE Sports Person of the Year’s night started off promisingly when he scored against West Ham United on Tuesday.
However, McClean (28) returned to his Midlands home to find it ransacked. He later revealed that a television and a £26,000 watch were among the items taken. He showed in anger in a post on social media.
In a post to his 111,000 followers on Instagram, he said: “When you get home from a last min defeat and your house has been robbed..thieving smelly b*****ds! Great night!”
He also said that the intruders had "wrecked the place".
His mother, Shauna McClean told the Irish News that James’s wife, Erin and their three children were still back in Derry on their Christmas break.
"They don’t know exactly all that was taken because Erin’s still here and there’s stuff of hers that James might not know,” she said.
Mrs McClean said her son was still upset by the burglary yesterday. Police told him they could find no evidence of forced entry at his home, she said.
“He said it wasn’t so much what was taken - that can all be replaced – but it was the fact that there were people in their home,” Mrs McClean said.
The burglary is the latest in a number of thefts at the homes of football stars. Everton’s Wayne Rooney’s home was targeted during his testimonial game last year while Liverpool players, Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren have also had their homes burgled while they were playing games.
