A Belfast social club has been fined for selling fake Smirnoff vodka.

The Liverpool Supporters’ Club, in Disraeli Street, was fined £150 with £120 costs awarded to Belfast City Council for selling a cheaper vodka brand from a Smirnoff bottle.

The Club pleaded guilty.

In October last year Trading Standards officers visited the premises and took a sample of vodka from a three-litre Smirnoff optic bottle.

They said that analysis of the vodka found that it was not authentic Smirnoff as the sample did not contain the appropriate sugar markers for Smirnoff vodka and could therefore not be described as such.
