TWO cats from Co Antrim are starring in charity Cats Protection’s 2018 calendar showcasing felines throughout their UK-wide adoption centres.

Frost, a tabby cat who lives in Belfast is the face of February while Felix, a black and white cat who lives in Lisburn, appears on the calendar's August page.

Frost was taken into Cats Protection’s care via the ISPCA after the closure of a research testing facility. He is one of over 100 cats to be rehomed from the facility through the charity’s Belfast Adoption Centre where Frost’s new owner, Klaus Syfuss, works.

Klaus said: “All the cats from the testing facility were of the same agreeable temperament, but when Frost arrived with his buddy Nicklaus, the two cats stood out because of their extremely engaging behavior. Nicklaus was homed first and I knew Frost had to come home with me as a buddy for my Maine Coon cat, Tom, as he could not be homed alone.

“Upon arrival at his new home, Frost tried to make friends with ‘Big Tom’, however Tom was very apprehensive of the ‘intruder’ but once they had bonded over a nice dinner and both had full bellies, I found them chilling on the sofa together, peacefully. Since then, when one is called, they both appear. Their favourite pastime in the evening is sitting where their treats are stored and staring at me until I give them some. It was absolutely the right decision to bring Frost home.”

Felix, who was put up for adoption when his previous owner became too ill to care for him, now lives in Lisburn with owners Paula and Nigel.

Paula said: “We went to Cats Protection after our old cat died. Although he was a little older than we’d planned, Felix was the first cat to greet us and we soon fell for his gentle nature.  He’s very friendly and a year later he’s really settled in with us and is known by everyone in our local community.”

The calendar costs £4.99 and is available to buy from Cat's Protection's nationwide chain of retail shops, as well as online at bit.ly/CatCalendarShop.
