SINN Féin has made a formal complaint to the Equality Commission and Human Rights Commission over "gross housing inequalities" in north Belfast.

Housing spokesperson Carál Ní Chuilín said she had submitted the complaint over the Housing Executive's "chronic failure" to address the problem.

She also called for a "long-term plan to address ongoing inequalities" to be brought forward.

"I have called on the Equality Commission to use their statutory duty to ensure that equality in housing provision on objective need is achieved in north Belfast," she said.

"The United Nations on no less than three separate occasions have intervened and expressed their concern about the failure to stem housing inequalities, which continue to grow."
