BOXER Carl Frampton is to be sued by his former management company, headed by Barry McGuigan.

Legal proceedings against the former two-weight world champion were lodged in the High Court in London last week.

It is understood the action relates to the split between the boxer and his promoters earlier this year.

Frampton (30) announced he had parted company with his manager and coach Shane McGuigan in August.

He later said he had joined management company MTK Global and is being trained by former British, Commonwealth and European champion Jamie Moore.

Frampton's solicitor John Finucane said last night he would make a counter-claim.

"Mr Frampton is deeply disappointed that Cyclone Promotions have decided to initiate legal action against him, however he will not only defend this action rigorously but can confirm he will be counter claiming on a number of grounds," he said.

"Mr Frampton is confident that this process will vindicate his position and reputation, and looks forward to engaging fully in this process to present all aspects of this claim before the court.

"Therefore it would be inappropriate to issue any further comment at this time."

Frampton returned to the ring after 10 months earlier this month with a points win over Mexican Horacio Garcia at the SSE Arena in Belfast.
