INTERNET retail giant Amazon has celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Prime programme by giving every household in two villages in the north free membership for a year.

Residents in Roughfort in Co Antrim and Rubane in Co Down have been among the most frequent Amazon customers over the last decade and as a thank you the company has given them unlimited one-day delivery and access to stream movies and television programmes.

The two villages have been identified by Amazon as having residents more likely to be Prime members than the UK average.

Amazon's UK Country Manager Doug Gurr said: "It's our pleasure to reward those who are already members with 12 additional months on us, and for those that haven't yet tried Prime we hope they will enjoy a chance to experience all the great benefits that come with it."

Roughfort and Rubane were listed by Amazon as being among 10 so-called 'Prime Villages' across the UK.
