HUNDREDS of toddlers will be deferring bedtime and heading to Belfast City Hall on Saturday November 18 after the announcement that this year's Christmas lights switct-on will be performed by CBeebies favourites Bing and the Twirlywoos.

CGI rabbit Bing stars in his self-titled TV series as a character who experiences the "mishaps, mess, energy and wonder of being a relatively new human being". Parents will be familiar with his often-repeated catchphrases, including "Hoop-dee-doo" and "Hoppity... voooooshhh!".

Bing will be accompanied on the night by his carer Flop, whose main job is to be a soothing influence on Bing when he faces a problem.

The Twirlywoos are a family of colourful characters - Great BigHoo, Toodloo, Chickedy and Chick - who enjoy adventures on a red boat where a tiny orange character called Peek-A-Boo spends his time trying to hide from the other characters.

Aside from fictional children's TV personalities, Cavehill Primary School choir will be performing at the swtich-on as will Derek and Jen from Milkshake Live.

Tickets, limited to four per booking, will be released at 9am on Friday November 3 and can be sourced online at visitbelfast.com or in person at the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre in Donegall Square North.

This year a ‘print at home’ option is available. Should you choose this, you must click through to download the ticket as the email confirmation will not suffice.

Tickets booked for collection must be picked up by 5pm on Thursday 16 November. Accessible viewing for the event can be booked by calling (028) 9024 6609 on Friday November 3. These are limited to two per booking due to restricted capacity. Terms and conditions apply

The event will start at 6.30pm, and last for around an hour. There will be road closures in effect in the city centre from earlier in the afternoon; details of these will be announced closer to the date.
