AN 18-year-old who was seen driving around Derry city centre in a tractor told police he was "using it for social purposes to see if there were any women about".

Anthony Breslin, of Gortnaskea in Burnfoot, Co Donegal, was charged with having no 'L' plates and driving unaccompanied on August 16 this year.

A court in Derry was told that the vehicle was seen in the city centre driving up Shipquay Street through the Diamond and was stopped in Orchard Street and the driver questioned as to its use.

He was said to have made full disclosures that it was not being used for farming or other agricultural use.

The case was adjourned for two weeks to allow Breslin to produce his licence.
