AN 18-year-old has died within days of his birthday after reportedly taking a lethal 'party' drug.

Jonny Ramsey, from Saintfield, Co Down, died in the Ulster hospital in Dundonald yesterday morning a short time after being admitted.

There are suggestions he may have taken two pink 'UFO' pills, which are a mix of ecstasy, methamphetamines and LSD.

Tributes have been paid to the popular young man on social media, with his girlfriend saying: "I love you more than anything".

Other friends expressed their disbelief at the sudden passing.

One wrote: "Can't believe I am sitting here writing this RIP Jonny Ramsey u always called me ur long lost mum I am going to miss u so much 18 is far to young u r at peace now... Sleep tight xxxx"

Alex Bunting of the Addiction NI charity said he was unaware of the UFO drug but 'poly drug use' is widespread among young people.

"There are literally layers upon layers of drug use, with prescription drugs among the most widely abused," he said.

Side effects of the UFO drug include ruptured blood vessels and overheating as it causes body temperature to rise to over 40 degrees.

The illegal substance was linked to a number of deaths in the the northern Polish port city of Gdansk over a decade ago.
