THE sudden death of a Polish man in his fifties is being treated as suspicious, police have said.

A 36-year-old man, also believed to be Polish, was arrested and remained in custody last night after the man's body was found at a rural cottage on Townhill Road outside Rasharkin, Co Antrim, around 10am yesterday.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place to determine how the man died.

The officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Mary White, said officers are treating the sudden death "as suspicious at this time".

She added: "The investigation is at an early stage and there are no further details at this time".

Sinn Féin North Antrim MLA Philip McGuigan has said the death has stunned people living nearby.

"The local community has been left in shock by this news," he said.

"I express my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the man and would urge anyone with information to bring it to the PSNI."
